Continuum mechanics studies the foundations of deformable body mechanics from a mathematical perspective. In addition, the volume also provides a mathematical explanation to the axioms and laws of deformable body mechanics, and its various applications in the field of solid mechanics.

About the Author
C. S. Jog is Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and worked as a postdoctoral assistant at the Technical University of Denmark for a year. He has more than twenty years of teaching and research experience and has published nearly forty papers in national and international journals. He teaches courses on elasticity, strength of materials, continuum mechanics and numerical analysis at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. His areas of interest are finite element methods, solid mechanics and structural optimisation.

This is a major contribution to the Literature in Continuum Mechanics. The amount of material on Tensors is more comprehensive than what you have in books dedicated to that subject alone: over two hundred pages in all! I agree with a previous commenter that the material is too scanty on the important subject of kinematics. The material on fourth-order tensors is so current that references to published articles on the subject are not more illuminating! A tremendous effort!
